I started writing when she was 7 years old. I grew up on an eclectic mix of Stephen King movies, Disney cartoons, and soap operas. My favorite book was a little one called Corduroy, and it was where I saw my first Black girl in a book. I really caught the writing bug when X-Men: The Animated Series came out. I wanted to create a kid’s version of what I was seeing, so I wrote and illustrated on notebook paper for about 7 years. I also wanted to be the next Stephen King or Christopher Pike, so I dabbled in horror concepts, creating cover art for stories I never fleshed out. Maybe one day. ;)
After reading The Outsiders for the first time, I then tried to write a version of that. It was very dramatic and didn’t hold a candle to the O.G., but either way, I wrote my first novel! Several Backstreet Boys fan fictions later (ask away XD), I had a dream that became the inciting incident of my first fantasy novel.
And now here we are. I love to create mildly dark worlds with bold female characters and supportive, often loveable male supporting characters. I’ve come to enjoy worlds that aren’t our own, especially ones nowhere near medieval Europe, if you know what I mean. I hope you come on this journey with me and enjoy the trip!
